Understanding and Nurturing Child Temperament
How can you describe temperament? Do you know that there are differences in temperaments among different children? From the research that has been carried out, temperament can generally be categorized into three main types and these are; easy, difficult and slow-to-warm-up. Easy children can be said to be those who adapt fast and are cheerful hence they have a smooth transition. The difficult children can be hard to deal with because they are stressful, get frustrated easily, and need time to adjust. When it comes to children with slow temperament, they might be shy and take longer time to adapt to change of events. Understanding which category your child is, may help greatly in parenting decisions.
How do you understand your child’s temperament? You should first try and assess the child’s response in specific circumstances. A good example is how do they react to new areas, or do they just blend in? Knowledge of these responses can assist people to be more receptive to certain ways of communication than others and have specific expectations.

Lastly, the slow-to-warm-up children would benefit from gradual introductions to new experiences.
