The Benefits of Bilingualism in Children
What is bilingualism? To the best of my knowledge, bilingualism is the flexibility for an individual to speak two languages effortlessly and the following benefits accrued to children. With people in this world being more than millions, anyone who wakes up to a new day has the benefit of learning a second language.
What do you know about bilingualism? The most significant benefit related to bilingualism is cognitive development. Different studies have found that the said type of children have performed well than monolingual children in areas such as problem solving and critical thinking. The change of language perceived as mental flexibility has enabled the children to grasp hard information quickly.
The popular advantage is that there are improved communicational skills as a result of being bilingual. This makes the children better speakers with regard to expressing and comprehending themselves and their feelings and hence are better social beings with adequate emotional skills.
From a cultural perspective, the kids get to learn about the two worlds hence have exposure to a bigger world. Learning second language involves being in contact with other people, cultures and traditions that make the child to be so broad minded. Something that I have seen children benefit a lot from is being able to induce cultural sensitivity that is important for the diverse society that is present nowadays. This has enabled children to know how to work, play, and associate with people from all over.
Bilingualism does have quite a number of advantages in the area of employment. As globalization goes on affecting industries, it is history for employer to search for workers who are able to speak different language than their own. It may help them get a head-start in their careers at some point in their lives as children are exposed to the business world.
