Understanding Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a diseases that has affected many of our loved ones worldwide. It has been noted to be common among women and a fact that many do not know is that it also affect men though rarely. In order to fight off this disease, it has been noted it is important to recognize its types, causes and symptoms.


Types of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer can be of different forms and characteristic. Here are the types of breast cancer:

1. Invasive Ductal Carcinoma: This type of breast cancer has been discovered to have affected many people and doctors have described it to originate from the milk ducts and spread to the surrounding tissues.
2. Invasive Lobular Carcinoma: It not that different from the invasive ductal carcinoma as it begins from milk producing glands and later spreads to other tissues.
3. Ductal Carcinoma in Situ: Medical experts has described this cancer as non-invasive as it is been noted to be confined in the milk duct and does not spread to other tissues.
4. Lobular Carcinoma in Situ: It is only found in the milk producing glands and it is also non-invasive.


Causes of Breast Cancer

1. Genetics: Family history can play part in causing breast cancer and gene mutations like BRCA1 and BRCA2 increase the risk of getting breast cancer.
2. Hormones: Doctors have confirmed the exposure to hormones like estrogen, progesterone can be a cause of the cancer.
3. Lifestyle and Age: factors like consumption of alcohol, obesity and lack of exercise can lead to the risk of cancer without forgetting increase of age increases the risk.

Symptoms of Breast Cancer


Here are some of the things to watch out for in determining whether you have breast cancer; lump in the breast or underarm, change of size or shape of breast, nipple discharge or pain and lastly skin change.
