What is a healthy snack? I know many people follow the advice of nutritionist by eating balanced diet but the part they forget is the role of snacks. Do you know that snacks are refreshing as they provide boost of energy and offer other benefits in our body? Here are some tips for choosing nutritious snacks:


1. Pick Whole Foods: Forget the processed foods and go for natural foods that are rich in nutrients. An example of these foods is the fruits and vegetables.
2. Balance your macronutrients: Do you know that carbohydrates, proteins and fats are also important in the snack so that it will be balanced. Research has shown this helps in energizing a person. To achieve this, you can for example pair a fruit with nuts.
3. Mind your portion sizes: Have you noticed that people tend to consume a lot when taking snacks? Doctors have advised that you should take a small portion to avoid consuming too many calories. I would insist that you prepare your snacks in advance in order to avoid this problem of going for more snacks than required.
4. Consider your goals: Do you have goals? Do you intend to achieve them? To obtain your goals, you should choose snacks that are of benefit. For instance when you want to shed some weight you can select a snack which contains few calories like a piece of fruit or vegetables.
5. Get creative: How creative are you? You should not fear trying out different healthy snacks as we all know there is a wide variety of delicious and nutritious snacks. You should try out a new fruit, a different type of nut or a new vegetable.
