The drug is under the classification of aromatase inhibitors. Letrozole is mainly assimilated to treat women with ovulation problems and people with unexplained infertility.

How Letrozole Induce Ovulation

When it’s orally ingested the enzyme aromatase is inhibited by the letrozole medication and estrogen levels are inhibited in young women. Thus, the brain and pituitary gland increase the output of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone).

In women who ovulate on their own, the treatment with Letrozole can result in the growth of multiple follicles and multiple egg releases. Hence, the release of multiple eggs causes an increased rate of pregnancy compared to the release of one egg with a natural menstrual cycle.
The release of multiple eggs through simulation ovulation of multiple follicles and eggs is referred to as superovulation or ovarian hyperstimulation.

The Chances of Ovulation With the Use of Letrozole

There is higher success for women not ovulating on their level.
The female partner is under 35 years old.
There is lower success for unexplained fertility in ovulating women.

Dosing

The most common dose of Letrozole is 2.5 mg per day on days five through nine of the menstrual cycle. Moreover, sometimes it is given in more doses of 5 mg or 7.5 mg per day.

A person using the medication has higher rates if birth defects.
There is a risk of twins with the use of Letrozole.

Pain during sexual intercourse.
