Using Gamification to Improve Cancer Treatment

Research has shown that cancer treatment requires strict adherence to improve outcomes. Do you know at times the patient normally have a difficulty of following treatment plans because of fatigue, side effects, or even forgetting at times? Have you heard of gamification? From my point of view it is a process of putting game-like elements into non-game contexts which offers a promising solution to enhance adherence.

By bringing up competition, motivation, and progress tracking, gamification is one style that I know would make cancer treatment more engaging and motivating.

Here are some implementations that I think would benefit patients:

1. Point Systems: I believe this system would work miracles as patients would earn points for completing treatment tasks, attending appointments or following medication schedules.
2. Leaderboards:  is a system that would rank patients in their treatment groups making competition even stiffer and this would motivate patients to put more effort in order to rank according to their expectation.

3. Challenges and Quests: Do you know that gamification includes tasks or missions which must be completed, for example, exercising for a particular number of days or tracking their symptoms. Besides, the completion of these challenges may give a feeling of accomplishment and motivation to the patients.
4. Progress Tracking: I think by using methods like charts or progress bars, long-term patients can be motivated and are more likely to stay on track when they are shown their development.

5. The Personalized Experiences: I know everyone loves experiences and this can be brought about to cancer patients by availing games that they love in exchange for them to be strict with their treatment.

I can conclude by saying that cancer treatment can be made more enjoyable and fun to patients through gamification.
